CHSCA Hall of Fame

2024 Hall of Fame Class Announced

The Colorado High School Coaches Association is excited to announce the 2024 Hall of Fame Class.  This is the 60th class to be inducted.

The class includes: Keri Atchison, Bruce Dick, Randy Dreitz, Caryn Jarocki, and Terry Taylor.

The class of five inductees includes three basketball coaches, one football coach, and the Hall’s second ever spirit coach.

The induction banquet to recognize this group will be held on Monday, April 15, 2024 at Legacy Campus Great Hall (formerly the Wildlife Experience), 10035 S Peoria St., Lone Tree, CO  80134.  Tickets to the event will be available for purchase at www.colohsca.org on January 25, 2024.

The inductees are:

Keri Atchison the accomplished Poms coach at Mountain Vista High School.  Atchison is the only Poms coach Mountain Vista has had in its 23-year history.  Her dance teams have won State Championships in all three divisions, three times in Pom, four times in Jazz, and twice in Hip-Hop. The 2017 Jazz team finished as National Champions. Keri is currently the Spirit Director overseeing both cheer and dance for the Eagles.  She is also the chairperson of the physical education department at Mountain Vista.  Atchison has been recognized in the past by the CHSCA with the Dale Yost Teacher Coach of the Year Award 2018 and the Spirit Coach of the Year Award in 2021.  In 2022 she was a finalist for the Coach of the Year for Specialty Sports awarded by the National High School Athletic Coaches Association.   

Bruce Dick the longtime Colorado High School Basketball Coach with successful stops at Green Mountain, Rocky Mountain, Resurrection Christian, and Fort Collins High Schools.  Coach Dick started his coaching career at Green Mountain High School in 1978 with his first head stint as the basketball coach in 1982.  Over the course of the next 23-years his teams qualified for the state tournament ten times and won the CHSAA State Championship in 1992.  He moved on to Rocky Mountain High School in 2005 and had the Rams competing in the state tournament three times over five years with the 2008 team getting to the great 8.  His next stop was Resurrection Christian where in a ten-year period his team was in the state tourney bracket eight times with six final-8 finishes.   They were state runners-up in 2015 and 2016.  The 2020 team was 25-0 when the season was ended by COVID after winning their quarter-final game.  Bruce is currently the head coach of the Fort Collins Lambkins and his 2023 team made an appearance in the Great 8.  The 45-year member of the CHSCA an overall record of 714-227 as a head basketball coach.

Randy Dreitz the 1981 graduate of Northglenn High School who has served an entire coaching career at Brush High School.  Coach Dreitz, the longtime assistant to Hall of Fame coach Larry Mills, took over the reins following Coach Mills’ retirement in 1999.  From 2000-2014 Dreitz’s football teams won 128 games.  Nine times they advanced to the final four and won the seven of those games.  The Beetdiggers won the CHSCA Championship in 2014 and finished runners-up in 2010.  Dreitz was also the head wrestling coach at Brush for a stint and his 1997 team finished runners-up at the CHSCA State Championships.  Coach Dreitz maintained a CHSCA membership throughout his coaching career and coached in the All-State Games in 1997.

Caryn Jarocki the seven-time state championship coach of girls’ basketball at Highlands Ranch High School.  Coach Jarocki is the winningest coach in Colorado High School girls’ basketball with over 700 wins and still adding on.  She began her head coaching career at Colorado Academy in 1985 and remained for 11 years.  Jarocki took over at Highlands Ranch High School in 1996 and remains there today.  Under her tutelage the Falcons won State Championships in 2000, 2001, 2002, 2006, 2007, 2008, and 2011. They won the runner-up trophy in 2013 and 2016.  Her teams have been to the final four an amazing 18-times.  She has won Colorado Coach of the Year awards multiple times from many different organizations.  Nationally she won the John Wooden Legacy Award in 2021, and was Awarded the Dave Sanders Award by the Denver Post in 2017.  These are only a few in a long list of recognitions.  Caryn would be even more proud of the many acknowledgements she receives from the student athletes she has taught and coached over the years when the recognize how she has prepared them for life.        

Terry Taylor the head coach of the Rangeview Raiders Boys’ Basketball Teams.  While at the helm at Rangeview from 1983-2003 Taylor’s basketball teams were regular entrants into the Colorado High School State Championships for the state’s largest classification.  They won the title in 1985 and followed that up with runner-up finishes in 1989 and 1993.  Taylor had previously led his San Juan Utah High School team to an undefeated Championship back in 1971.  More recently Taylor offered his services as an assistant on the bench at Eaglecrest High School during their run to State Championships in 2013 and 2017.  Taylor’s overall record as a head boys’ basketball coach was 455-219.  Taylor coached in the CHSCA All State Games in 1978 and 1989.
